...AH: Well, I rely on place a lot. My whole first book was “California,” and focused on beach communities and the transient lives there. My novella was actually set in a beach community too. I was urging students that I have here to think about place in terms of what happens in a certain place that doesn’t happen somewhere else, or anywhere else.
