Nude Super-mother. Bettelheim, who is also a University of Chicago professor of psychology and psychiatry, is now treating 53 disturbed children-an average-size group-at the Sonia Shankman School. There, restraints are totally absent. Doors are never locked. There are no bars on the windows and virtually no rules. Spankings and scoldings are forbidden. Bedrooms burst with toys and stuffed animals. A soda fountain and an unlocked cupboard brimming with cookies and candy await any child with a nagging thirst and a sweet tooth. Outside in the grassy courtyard, a concrete nude "supermother"-twice life-size-sprawls...

Something Drastic. At the meeting, the company credibility gap was hardly improved when Chairman Melvin W. Alldredge insisted that the absent Jay had retired merely "because of personal reasons." With "such an aura of mystery," complained one disbelieving stockholder, "it must have been something fairly drastic." There were some rather drastic statistics to consider. During A. &P.'s first 1968 quarter, which closed just seven days before Jay exited, profits plummeted 21 % below the 1967 first quarter. As things now stand, the ruling colonels are free to build a government to their own liking, without palace interference, yet with an "absent King" to protect their legal position as servants of the monarchy. The junta still professes loyalty to the monarchy, but it has a different kind of monarchy in mind. Its members are unlikely even to consider Constantine's return until they draw up a new constitution that will severely...

And they are ably backed by a surprisingly supple comedian named Van Johnson, who seems to be searching for-and finding -a new turn to his long career. Together, the old pros take the surplus corn and, like the manufacturers of all that breakfast food they buy, turn it into...

...through Demoiselles with a happy idiot grin on his face, intensely pleased to watch beautiful people gaze at one another and sing lines like, "Mais tu es merveilleuse," and "Son profil est celui de ces vierges mythiques qui hantent les musees et les adolescents." Michel Legrand's music (never absent--like Cherbourg, the film is entirely sung) makes much use of half a dozen excellent themes; a ridiculously Rachmanioffy piano concerto and the chanson de Maxence are particularly memorable. Demy's lyrics simple and direct ("Estelle loin d'ici? Est-elle pres de moi? Je n'en sais rien encore...
