...unusual resurfacing appears to be in progress. For example, Winwood turned up as a sideman on Toots and the Maytals' recent Reggae Got Soul album, playing organ and piano, and he has produced and engineered a jazz-influenced album of West African "High Life" music by Remi Kabaka and Abdul Lasisi Amao, on which he also provided guitar and keyboard work...

...John's Bargain Stores that attracted a couple of oil-rich Arab shoppers last week. In Seattle, spokesmen for the Boeing Company confirmed having discussions with agents of King Khalid ibn Abdul Aziz, 63, of Saudi Arabia. His Majesty, it seems, is in the market for a monster five-story-high 7475P jet that would probably cost upward of $50 million and include a stratospheric throne plus a royal hospital room wired for communication via satellite. Back in Chicago, meanwhile, emissaries of Qabus bin Said, 35, Sultan of Oman, were content merely to rent space...

...Syrian troops to keep peace between other Syrian troops and the leftist Palestinians seemed a shaky solution, but the limited cease-fire remained intact at week's end. It did not, however, bring any real peace to Lebanon because the agreement, negotiated by Libyan Premier Abdul Salam Jalloud, did not extend to the country's warring leftist Moslem and rightist Christian forces. More than 150 were killed and well over...

Ambler's old practice of humanizing his heroes by having them blunder into dangerous situations had become a tendency to portray his protaganists as, well, creeps. Like Arthur Abdul Simpson, the hero of Dirty Story, who is first introduced in The Light of Day. There he is blackmailed by a jewel ring into smuggling guns, and in turn blackmailed by the Turkish police into infiltrating the mob (a decent film, Topkapi, was made from this; Peter Ustinov made an excellent creep). Anyway, Simpson is the son of a British army man stationed in Cairo and an Egyptian woman. They...
