Yesterday the 'varsity crew was out in a shell for the first time since the epidemic of sickness compelled the crews to abandon the river. The order in which the men rowed is radically different from anything heretofore tried, and may be said to be permanent. The most significant change is that of Bullard to stroke. Hollister, who has rowed at that position during most of the season, is rather slow, and is also too inexperienced for the most important position in the boat. ...Little's last night, Mr. P. J. Hill of New York, formerly a member of the Boston Chess Club played simultaneous games with twelve members of the Harvard Chess Club. Mr. Hill intended to play blindfolded, but as he had just finished a journey it was thought best to abandon this plan. Of the twelve games which were played, Mr. Hill won nine and lost three.
