Both supported the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act that prohibited the federal government from recognizing gay weddings. After Rwanda and Kosovo, another dark page of modern history is being written in East Timor by the Indonesian army. It's a shame the international community did not react faster in condemning Indonesia and preventing the genocide, which has been ongoing since the mid-'70s in East Timor.
