...magazines - in their electronic manifestation - get to be real magazines again, incarnated without paper. The iPad makes the electronic magazine something you get your hands on, something you can play with. Look at the fantabulous app from Popular Science in which each story is a wonderland that you can scroll and push and pull, moving overlay and text and stories around like a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes you can't tell advertisement from original content - and I mean this in a good way. Nothing really intrudes on the experience. If you don't like what you see, swipe it away...
...Scroll through your Facebook newsfeed these days, and chances are you'll feel like a slacker. Why? Because everyone and his uncle seems to be getting ready to run a marathon. They're asking for donations, creating special support-me-while-I'm-training groups and posting status updates about returning from a 20-mile run at an hour when most sane people are lazily rolling out of bed. The nonprofit group Running USA reports that there were 467,000 marathon finishers last year, up nearly 10% from 2008 - and the highest number of finishers to date...
...both of you races for the "Next" button. When I tried to actually chat with people - mainly to ask what they were looking for on the site - they either stared blankly or skipped ahead. It seems that the only way to get anyone to stop their endless scroll is to either a) be female (in my unscientific test, about 85% of the people on ChatRoulette were male) or b) be ridiculous. The latter explains my gas-mask friend, faux Hitler and people posing as cast members from Jersey Shore...
...change we especially like is the way photo comments are next to pictures instead of under them. Not having to scroll down to see the thread makes for more efficient procrastination...
