Although it focuses on iron and steel provisions, the "buy American" clause would save just 1,000 U.S. jobs because steel is very capital intensive, the study's authors Gary Hufbauer and Jeffrey Schott say. "In the giant U.S. economy, with a labor force of roughly 140 million people, 1,000 jobs or less is a very small number," they wrote. ...global recession will clearly take some air out of the green-investment bubble. FPL Group, the largest operator of wind power in the U.S., just announced that it would cut back on new turbines, while Germany's Schott Solar, one of the oldest solar-power companies in the world, pulled out of a planned $900 million initial public offering. Hodge told me that when he arrived at the combination middle school and high school 11 years ago, the academy was already a great success--but the student body was 80% female. The new principal made it his business to recruit more...

Waggling one of the black Japanese bats he has taken to hiding from souvenir hunters--and perhaps from Reds Owner-Auto Dealer Marge ("Buy American") Schott--Rose says he will not risk his reputation or the glory of his record...
