Under pressure from a group of female professors concerned about gender and racial prejudice, the University of California has rescinded a speaking invitation to former Harvard president Lawrence H. Summers. The decision drew criticism from allies of Summers as well as some of his onetime opponents in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
