Notice his shout out to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, conspicuously absent from his first email. FlyBy wonders if this caused any unrest within the Registrar this past week. He also really went for conciseness here, cutting out "Friday" when referencing "May 29th" (a whole week after finals are over!  First agenda for the summer, eh?), and saying "I encourage you to complete all of your evaluations this term" instead of "I encourage you to complete evaluations for all of your courses this term"--saving you one word of reading...

Last week, Registrar Barry S. Kane announced that students who complete their Q evaluations online will be able to access their final grades immediately after the end of the examination period instead of having to wait the usual 10 days. The end-of-semester evaluations, which are mandatory for all but the smallest seminar courses, are an important part of both teaching and learning here at the College, and it is essential that students fill them out. Well, the administration has yet to take those sorts of drastic measures to raise the 74% (pretty impressive) response rate.  But, if you happen to have a have a from: Barry Kane, to: trash email filter, you might want to perk up.  The Registrar has finally learned the power of incentives...

...this term will be a feature that many students have been encouraging us to implement - the Registrar's Office will permit students who have completed all of their course evaluations to view their final course grades electronically as soon as the final examination period has concluded.  Conversely, students who do not complete all of their evaluations will not be able to view their on-line grades this early in the process...

However, has the Registrar deeply considered the ramifications of this?  On margin, those extra 26% who refuse to fill out the Q are the hardest of hard core holdouts.  They set up Barry Kane filters, they refuse the appeals of such campus luminaries as Matt L. Sundquist '09, Sangu J. Delle '10, and Clifton G. Dawson '07, and don't even care enough for their future brethren to lower that fanatic-inflated overall rating on that small seminar class.  These free-riders just refused to care enough...until...
