Though nothing has recently been made public concerning the University Club project, the graduates interested in the plan have not been idle, and the canvass of opinion in the various Harvard clubs has progressed rapidly. Thayer attended by invitation a meeting of the New York Harvard Club, and explained to its members the project for a University Club at Harvard. The meeting was very numerously attended, and it voted unanimously to adopt resolutions presented by Mr. Henry S. Van Duzer heartily to support the project and to appoint a committee of seven members of the New York Harvard Club to cooperate with the General Committee...
...riders and two tandems will be entered in the intercollegiate races. Men will also be entered for the Harvard meet on June 3, besides the regular circuit races around New Haven. Through the efforts of the Athletic Association the individual expenses of the riders will be very small. The project of having a Yale bicycle meet early in May, similar to the Harvard races in June, has been discussed somewhat, but it is doubtful if this can be accomplished this year...
About a week later another conference was held; this time with the principals of high schools about Boston and with the masters of the fitting schools. After a visit to the various departments and a luncheon in the library, the project of increasing the already rigorous requirements for admission was fully discussed. The masters expressed a willingness to meet the advanced requirements by instituting new preparatory courses, and the result will probably be a decided raising of the requirements for admission to the Scientific School...
...meeting of the Committee of Ten on the University Club project was held yesterday afternoon at the office of the chairman, Mr. Charles Francis Adams. A permanent organization was effected with Mr. Adams as chairman and Mr. William R. Thayer as secretary. It was decided to print a number of copies of the report of the Committee of Five to be sent with a circular calling for expressions of opinions on the project and to be distributed among graduates in different parts of the country through the medium of the various Harvard Clubs.
