...nebulous. They include the intangible commitment to “honesty and integrity in all dealings,” and an obligatory “respect for the rights, differences, and dignity of others.” But these promises didn’t protect Saintely Paul, a janitor in William James, from being fired unjustly after fainting on the job. Harvard rehired him with full back pay only after a cooperative effort by workers, the union, and students made Paul and his case publicly visible...

...against things,’" he says while sipping chai, methodically breaking his tea stirrer into smaller and smaller pieces. "We always try to have a vision for what we’re for." Recently, that vision was last fall’s "Justice for Janitors" campaign which successfully fought for higher wages for custodial staff; a dining hall workers support campaign that garnered 1,300 responses this spring; and the recently won fight to get Saintely Paul, a janitor who had been fired after allegedly fainting at work, reinstated...

After weeks of community outrage, Saintely Paul, the Harvard janitor allegedly fired for fainting on the job, will return to work, according to labor leaders. On Wednesday, the local branch of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the University, and Paul reached a verbal agreement allowing Paul to regain his job, as well as full back pay for time missed and coverage of medical expenses related to his condition, the union said. The agreement comes after several rallies staged on Paul’s behalf by students, union members, and local and state politicians. Shortly after the last rally...

...pennies; she reached out with a child’s innocence and a lifetime’s savings of love. Unfortunately, D.A. took this love the wrong way and is no longer allowed within 500 yards of an elementary school. Luckily, he’s already found a great janitor costume. We must admit, however, that one stereotype was fulfilled: the world of finance is criminally misogynistic. Any girls who are thinking about banking, bank on not being able to make a copy without a loan officer copping a feel. We even adjusted to the climate. A week into work...
