Meloni narrates over the entire sequence, explaining that the girl was waiting for a man who never came; in another elegant shot, the film cuts back to her waving goodbye to her lover as he ascends the airport escalator, Meloni and his companion descending the parallel escalator, still talking, just moments later. ...most well represented relationship in this production was that between Catherine and Robert, which culminated in a flashback scene in the second half depicting Robert’s regression. Rogers’ exemplary depiction of his character’s degeneration into madness was particularly impressive since the scene took place outside in December, and Rogers shivered throughout the entire episode...
Boomers do this regularly, of course - make up stuff about how great they are. They're also eager consumers of goods that jog the memory of their greatness. This explains the current avalanche of hagiographic Woodstock products - DVDs, oral histories, "40th Anniversary Flashback Edition" paper dolls - which is not the most apt way to recall a moment supposedly unbound from commercialism.
