The "Banger Rush" was caused by the fact that "although it was twelve days before the customary time for Freshmen canes to be seen on the street, several members of '79 swung out last Wednesday with the offensive article of furniture." A fight took place between the Sophomores and Freshmen under the windows of the New Haven House, and was viewed with interest by the "ladies" of that hostelry.
