The contest was very close, but Fish won the first relay in 51 2-5s. and Vincent won the second in 50 1-5s. Butler, however, weakened considerably and fell just before reaching the tape. Hollister then managed to touch him and though Fisher, Yale's crack quarter-miler had gained a lead of seven yards, the Harvard runner overhauled him and won by five yards.
