(for Arthur) Powell Davies, 55, eloquent pastor of Washington's All Souls Unitarian Church (since 1944), author of liberalized gospel (The Urge to Persecute); of a heart attack; in Washington. Davies often used his well-attended sermons to dissect current events: when fellow traveling was still in vogue, he prodded U.S. liberals; when Congressional Investigators McCarthy, Velde and Jenner were glorified, he blasted them as "men of tyranny."
