...This is a highly moral place," insists a 26-year-old brunette media buyer for a Manhattan advertising agency. "Nobody does anything they don't want to do." Adds Judy Deutsch, who graduated from Sarah Lawrence last month: "I'd be terribly shocked if it wasn't mixed boys and girls here Most people who have been through college take these things in stride." Indeed they do-or appear to-and they have given Fire Island a unique place in the sun. "This island just floats on weekends," muses Mark Newland, a senior at George Washington University...

Johan Johan was fast-moving and amusing, largely through the efforts of Niocholas Deutsch. As the cuckolded, henpecked fool, Deutsch appeals to the audience for support; taking then into his confidence; sharing with them his mingled dislike, distrust, and fear of his wife. From intense anger he passes quickly to childlike puzzlement, and both moods are refreshingly convincing. Rochester had the ball, though at first it didn't look as if the New Yorkers were going to utilize their advantage. They brought the ball slowly down court and didn't work it in for a short shot. With time rapidly running out, Rochester guard David Deutsch dribbled across the top of the foul circle and fired a hook shot "from behind his ear," as one observer...

...hopeful response to this knowledge gap is to put "culturally impoverished" children into prekindergartens at the age of four and pour the missing commonplaces into them. Working under near-laboratory conditions, New York City Psychologist Martin Deutsch pioneered teaching concepts for preschoolers; now Ford Foundation-sponsored projects are under way in Oakland, New Haven, New York, Boston, and eastern Pennsylvania. The U.S. Office of Education is backing an experiment in Kalamazoo, Mich., and the Johnson Foundation has financed a program in Racine, Wis. Farthest along of all is Baltimore's "Early School Admissions Project," supported by the city...
