Last week the Cincinnati dentists held a closed membership meeting to hear Peter Garvin's appeal. By expelling him, argued Garvin, his fellow dentists denied him the constitutional right to "freedom of expression" (a right which is profitably exercised by such famed columnist-M.D.s as Chicago's Herman Bundesen and Walter Alvarez). Nor have dental society officials criticized the content of his columns, which frequently urge "consultation with your family dentist."
