Since the passing of the war revenue bills there has been evident the growth of many unfortunate objections to various sections of the measures. The theatre men are content with the raising of revenue from baseball, the baseball men with the raising of revenue from tobacco, the tabacco men with the raising of revenue from incomes. But those provisions which affect each more personally find less favor...

Children of French soldiers are left orphaned after every battle. For most of them there is no means of obtaining the necessities of life save through gifts. If the German Emperor had never had dreams of Weltmacht, and been content to hold to his central domains, many brave Frenchmen would now be living in peace, and their children would look to their fathers for support. But the ambition of a foreign emperor brought havoc in lands not under his control, and as a result the orphans of France call to America...

...preparedness agitation of last year. We look from force of habit for a description of the bombardment of New York and details of the atrocities of spike-helmeted invaders. However, the article shows us the impossibility of ever reaching an end of an armament race when no nation is content to rank less than first or a close second. We can only hope that when the present war eventually ends, the nations fighting "to crush militarism" will be in a position to strike at the root of it by limiting the armament race through some form of world organization...
