James Southworth ("Jim") Parker used to teach at St. Paul's School (Concord, N. H.). In 1898 he went to farming, in Salem, N. Y. His neighbours saw he had "book learnin' " and sent him to the legislature, then Congress (in 1913). He wears square-cut clothes, stutters a little, reads studiously.
