Agrado is one of Almodóvar's great creations, and the avatar for his artistic message. Her name means pleasure, and she is a sort of Falstaffian clown - colorful, pleasure-seeking and lovable. If there is a complaint to be made about this adaptation it is that Australian-born writer Samuel Adamson ultimately ignores the Agrado spirit by deciding in the final scenes to take himself and the play too seriously...

Crumm has the winsome, quizzical look of a class clown who gets the girl only by accident, not the heartthrob played by John Travolta in the 1978 film. And Osnes's lovely, sculptured singing voice does struggle at times to get heard over the small but well-miked house band. But they perform all the dance moves required...
